Horses, Cadre Noir de Saumur 1969, Garde Républicaine

From an early age, Jean Bruneau was drawn to horses, and throughout his life he drew and painted them at rest, trotting, galloping and even on the ground. He would go and see them in circuses, at racecourses or simply in nature.

In 1969, on his return from the Cadre Noir in Saumur, he produced these gouaches on paper representing part of what he had seen.

During his business trips to Paris, always attracted by horses, he would try to visit the Garde Républicaine to admire horses and riders and draw these pictures.
