Uniforms for the 14/18 war
MILITARY BOARDS : Among Jean Bruneau's passions were lead soldiers, of which he owned several thousand, often cleverly displayed alongside military objects. His interest in uniforms came from the cardboard sheets of soldiers he cut out as a child and tried to reproduce, spurred on by his innate gift for drawing. By the age of thirteen, he was drawing strips of military cavalcades several metres long to decorate his friends' bedrooms. His taste for history and anecdote meant that the soldiers in the colourful uniforms that paraded through his mind after so much reading came to life under his pencil and colours.
14/18 WAR UNIFORM
Jean Bruneau was born in 1921. Like all children of his age, he was imbued with the stories of the "Great War" and the testimonies of his family. After cutting out and trying to reproduce what were known as "card soldiers" as a child, around 1965 he set about reconstructing the history of the uniforms that made up the French army, and the precision of the detail will delight enthusiasts.
