Sketching before painting and street characters
Jean Bruneau often travelled accompanied, as he didn't like driving and enjoyed the scenery as a passenger, his sketchpad close at hand. All he needed was a brief moment to sketch a scene and memorise it precisely. If he didn't have his sketchpad, the smallest piece of paper was useful, like this envelope he used in Spain (he had just received this letter from his children that very morning). He worked on his sketches when he got back to his studio. In Jean Bruneau's paintings and drawings you will often find characters that he found interesting to immortalise.
